BPJS Kesehatan Faces Deficit, Gov`t Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – State Secretary Pratikno admitted that Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) goes into deficit financing.

“BPJS Kesehatan does have a deficit, and last year there was a deficit too,” he said in Gadjah Mada University (UGM), in Yogyakarta, on Saturday (29/10).

He explained that government currently keeps trying to achieve efficiency in using state budget.

He added that the deficit occurred due to a huge gap between the amount of premium paid and the amount of fund spent to cover healthcare as provided by BPJS Kesehatan.

However, the government is taking this problem seriously and will allocate budget to deal with the deficit that BPJS faces, he added.

“This will be further discussed in State Budget (APBN) by Finance Minister,” Pratikno said.
