The Jakarta Globe – Jakarta. Former general treasurer of the Democratic Party and graft convict Muhammad Nazaruddin claimed on Tuesday (18/10) that Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo was involved in the notorious e-KTP corruption case.
Nazaruddin made the allegation while he was being investigated for his own involvement in the case by the Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, at their headquarters in South Jakarta.
The KPK did summon Agus as a witness in the case on Tuesday (18/10) since he was the finance minister when the Rp 6.7 trillion ($515 million) e-KTP procurement project was approved in 2011. However, Agus failed to comply with the order.
“Money was flowing to Agus as well,” Nazaruddin told reporters at the KPK headquarters.
Nazaruddin said Agus should be interrogated as he was the official who approved the funding for the e-KTP project. Agus’ predecessor and current finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati had refused to approve it, Nazaruddin added.
“There were meetings arranged at that time to get Agus to issue his approval,” he said.
KPK deputy chairman Laode M. Syarif said they will use the lead from Nazaruddin but that will not be the only line of investigation that the antigraft agency will follow to find the real mastermind behind the case.
The agency is currently investigating cash flows in the case, which resulted in Rp 1.12 trillion in state losses.
“[The cash flows] are still being investigated. All cash flows connected to the e-KTP project will be tracked,” Laode said.
The e-KTP project, advertised to provide biometric ID cards to all Indonesians aged 17 and older, was mothballed in October 2015 following a series of problems, including a late start, technical glitches and officials demanding payments from residents to provide the ostensibly free service.
Another subpoena has been sent to Agus asking him to come to the KPK headquarters next week for questioning.
