Jokowi to Form Illegal Levy Eradication Team

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla would prioritize the law sector in their third year of leadership. One of the breakthroughs, Pramono added, is a law reform policy package.

According to him, Jokowi will show his commitment to eradicating illegal levy practices at ministries and government institutions.

“The government is currently focusing on the law reform,” Pramono said at his office in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 19, 2016.

Pramono revealed that the bill on the establishment of an illegal levies eradication task force is expected to be signed by the President tomorrow. However, he refused to reveal the details of the presidential regulation. Pramono explained that the task force would serve its duties under the supervision of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security.

This week marks the second anniversary of President Jokowi’s administration. A number of policies had been crafted to improve the country’s infrastructures and economy.

Pramono said that President Jokowi had focused on economic improvement in his first two years of leadership.

“Compared to other countries in the [ASEAN] region, our economy is relatively stable with a considerable growth. We expect to achieve more,” he said.
